Archaeological
findings of the Talayotic culture show that the
surroundings of the actual Ariany
were populated in prehistoric times. At the time of James the First the settlement was already mentioned with its current name. From the sixteenth century Ariany was subject to
the Cotoner family, owners of the land Ariany, who was assigned the Marquesado
of Ariany in 1717 by Felipe V, in appreciation for their support of the Bourbons
in the Succession War . The present village was developed around the house S'Auberg
and El Camí de Sa Marquesa ,
which, according to traditional sources, was
leading from there to Son Sureda de Manacor.
The current name of the town originates from the Arabic farmhouse.
