Former rail
road track. Right at the top of El Arenal, near the water park, stretches a
plot of land, where still some of the old train tracks that ran to the square
of the Estacion (in the centre of El Arenal) are preserved.
Miramar Avenue. The sea front is one of the most emblematic areas of the town.
Its promenade, full of palm trees, shows view of the beginning of a huge beach
of more than 10 kilometers long, from which the whole Bay of Palma can be
observed.
Son Veri. One of the urbanisations ,which is the nearest to El Arenal..
Quiet area with plenty of big houses from the seventies, which leads to an area
of rocks with crystal clear waters.
S'Arenal
Park. A shopping centre with two floors of shops, cafes and supermarkets. Very
colourful. With parking and designed by Agatha Ruiz de la Prada.
Aqualand (formerly Aquacity). Water park with many attractions. A very large
green, natural area, the park was built in the middle of the countryside. The
flora is composed of natural pine.
El Arenal Entertainment
One of the attractions that have been added to the quarters since some years,
in this case commercial, is the centre designed by Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, SArenal
Park, which offers a colourful diversity to tourists, but which still is
not commercially functional despite of the huge expectancy of success.
Also very known is their water park, Aqualand El
Arenal, which opened in the late eighties under the name of Aquacity , under
the incentive of being the largest in the world at that time. Its water
attractions the 'lazy river', the 'donuts' or the ' kamikaze 'did and continue
to delight many young and not so young. In recent years they have invested in
new attractions, particularly focusing on the smallest ones.
Night
In high season,the nights are full of ambiance in this quarter. The whole front
of the sea is fraught of bars and spas where you can drink anything after
sunset. Bars, discos, cafes,English pubs ,Irish pubs, biergardens, etc.. make a
stroll through this area an experience of light and colour. However, with the
end of the season, it's hard to find a bar that's open. Only in the part of
Llucmajor might be somebody that survives the colder months. In the
mid-nineties, before the majority of the entertainment in and around Palma was
focussed on the seafront of the capital, El Arenal used to attract thousands of
young people who drank at the doors of the pubs, before this phenomenon was
called the “ botellón” . The Ibiza (which still remains open nowadays), or the
Coco Rico or the Cheers were weekly meeting points for youngsters from all over
Mallorca.
The most appealing aspect of El Arenal is the
beach. Other places are noteworthy, but it is not an area which offers great
monuments or sites, apart from the triangle of sun, beach and leisure.
Yacht Club. The R.C.N. El Arenal is one of the most outstanding of Mallorca,
and one of the most famous of the Bay of Palma. The restaurant Las Sirenas is
famous in the area while the nearby beach (Son Veri) and the attached rocks
have one of the cleanest waters in the area.
In regard
to the world of culture, this population has three colleges, institutes and
libraries. Furthermore, the writer Maria llucmajorera Antňnia Oliver spent many
of his summers in these costs. Publications have been published sometime
S'Estel of S'Arenal S'Arenal and S'Unió of two local magazines with an outdated
layout and design but several readers have related to them.
