In the year 1248 according to a bull of Innocent IV, there was a church dedicated to Santa Maria.

The village acquired the title of Pueblo Real in 1300, and during the Middle Ages it was a village that stood out amongst others, due to the construction of a royal residence (now almost disappeared under a convent of cloistered nuns) and the office of Veguer de Fora . From this period originates the famous Wednesday market, highly agricultural ,which is now a focus for tourism.

Until 1925, Sineu included the town of Lloret Vistalegre, which after several failed attempts in the nineteenth century, is now segregated.

Already in prehistoric times Sineu must have been inhabited, as there are sites such as the Talayot de Son Creixell, Sa Ritxla , Sa Ritxoleta, Son Rossinyol and Son Vanrell.

Some experts have associated Sineu (Sinium) with at a place called Guium de la Mallorca Romana, which is cited by Plinio el Viejo (NH 3, 77), to have had a certain population.
At the end of the Muslim era, the land of Sineu was integrated into the district of Yiynau-Bitran, and after the conquest it was integrated into the royal part and was assigned to the Paborde de Tarragona.
